Free PDF signing, built right
freesign is a free online PDF signing service — sign any document directly in your browser, no software to install, no subscription required. Every signed PDF gets a cryptographic countersignature and a full audit trail.
What we do
Most e-signature platforms are built for enterprises — complex workflows, seat-based pricing, and features most people never use. freesign takes the opposite approach: a simple tool that lets you sign PDF documents free online, with everything you need and nothing you don't.
You upload a PDF, place your signature and any text fields, give your electronic consent, and download a signed copy in seconds. Every signed document receives a cryptographic server countersignature that permanently seals its authenticity.
How it's different
Runs in your browser
PDF signing uses pdf-lib, a pure-JavaScript PDF library. Your document bytes never leave your browser during signing — only the finished signed PDF is sent to our server for countersigning and storage.
Cryptographically sealed
Every signed document receives a PAdES B-B digital signature from our server using a dedicated signing certificate. The signature is verifiable by Adobe Acrobat, and by anyone using our public Verify page.
Full audit trail
We log every action — upload, consent, signing, and download — with timestamp and IP address. The signer's name and email are embedded directly in the PDF's cryptographic signature, not just in a side database.
No subscription
3 free signatures every month. When you need more, you buy a credit pack — a one-time purchase that never expires. No recurring charges, no seat licenses, no hidden fees.
Legal compliance
freesign is designed to meet the requirements of the U.S. Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA). Before signing, each user is presented with an electronic disclosure and must affirmatively consent — satisfying the intent and attribution requirements of both acts.
The audit trail — including the signer's identity, IP address, and the exact timestamp of consent — is preserved in our database and embedded in the signed PDF itself, providing a durable record that can be independently verified.
freesign provides tools for electronic signature. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Consult an attorney for guidance on whether electronic signatures are appropriate for your specific use case.
Open verification
Anyone — whether or not they have a freesign account — can verify a signed document using our public verification page. Upload the PDF and we'll check the cryptographic countersignature, confirm the document hasn't been modified since signing, and display the signer identity embedded in the signature.
